British sitcom Ghosts gets a feature follow-up, The Possession of Button House, and the trailer is here

The ghostly merriment of Ghosts left a lasting impression on British television viewers, running for five seasons and 34 episodes on BBC One. The sitcom transported audiences into the delightfully spooky world of a group of historical ghosts sharing a country house with new living occupants—a premise that proved an absolute delight.

Years after its farewell, the magic didn’t fade away; it simply found a new, more cinematic adventure. The cast and creators have returned, embarking on a feature film sequel titled Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, and a tantalizing trailer has just dropped online, promising even more haunting fun.

So, what happens when the veil between worlds thins? While the sitcom focused on the everyday coexistence of ghosts and humans, the new feature film dives into deeper territory. It centers on a group of teenagers who decide to break into the abandoned Button House with the audacious goal of attempting a séance. Their plan quickly spirals into something far more unsettling: accidentally triggering a full-blown, spooky encounter with the manor’s resident spirits.

The creative team behind the original series—including Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond—have stepped up to rewrite the screenplay for this new venture. They are joined by returning cast members Charlotte Ritchie, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and Lolly Adefope, bringing their unique chemistry to explore the haunting depths of Button House.

The creators admitted that while they thought they had said goodbye to the haunted house at the end of the final series, the desire for more adventure was too strong to resist. Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is a chance for these familiar faces to revisit their beloved location for one more thrilling journey of life and death.

The film is helmed by director Simon Hynd, who previously captured the charm of the sitcom, and produced by Alison Carpenter and Andy Brunskill. Mark your calendars: Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is set to arrive in UK cinemas on October 23, perfectly timed for Halloween festivities.
