Focus Features and Working Title Films are bringing Jane Austen’s timeless classic, Sense and Sensibility, to the screen this Fall, releasing a fresh adaptation of the beloved novel.
The production has officially unveiled its trailer and poster, setting the stage for an emotionally rich period romance that promises to explore the complexities of family, love, and loss in the 1790s. At the heart of this story are the Dashwood sisters and their widowed mother as they navigate profound changes and emotional upheaval.
Leading the ensemble is Daisy Edgar-Jones, who brings depth and nuance to the role of Elinor Dashwood. She is joined by a stellar cast including Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum, Bodhi Rae Breathnach, George MacKay, and Fiona Shaw.
The narrative follows the three sisters as they are compelled to leave their family estate in Sussex. Seeking a new life, they relocate to a modest cottage in Devon, where unexpected love blossoms alongside inevitable heartbreak. It is this move that forces them to confront the difficult realities of their circumstances.
Behind the lens, the creative team has assembled a talented group to bring the story to life. Georgia Oakley directs the adaptation, working from a script reimagined by Diana Reid. The production is overseen by producers including Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, India Flint, and Jo Wallett, with Arnaud Potier serving as cinematographer to capture the beautiful, atmospheric setting of the era.
This cinematic vision promises not only stunning visual appeal but also an intimate look at the delicate balance between duty and desire faced by women in the Age of Sensibility. It is a story about finding strength in sisterhood when life throws its most challenging tests.
Fans eager to witness this literary classic brought to dynamic, modern life can look forward to seeing Sense and Sensibility opening this Fall. The film is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on September 25th, followed by a US release on October 16th.
