Christopher Nolan’s epic vision for “The Odyssey” has finally unveiled its major cast list, putting an end to one of the most persistent and entertaining rumors swirling around the project.
For months, speculation had pegged actor Elliot Page as the famed warrior Achilles, especially concerning the underworld-set scenes. This notion gained significant traction in conservative media circles, fueled by early footage that suggested Page interacting with Odysseus while he sought guidance from his companions.
The truth, however, proved to be far more intriguing than the initial gossip. Page will not be portraying Achilles; instead, he steps into the role of Sinon. Sinon is a character rooted in Virgil’s Aeneid rather than Homer’s original text, serving as the clever figure who manipulates the Trojans into bringing the horse into the city by pretending to have been abandoned by the Greeks.
This revelation marks the start of a fascinating look at the depth and scope of the production. Beyond Page’s role, the finalized list brings together an incredible ensemble cast that anchors the narrative in mythology.
The core of the epic remains firmly established with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. The supporting roles are equally compelling:
James Remar takes on the mantle of the blind Underworld prophet Tiresias, while Himesh Patel is cast as Odysseus’s incompetent brother-in-law Eurylochus. Logan Marshall-Green portrays the disloyal Ithacan goatheard Melanthius and Mia Goth embodies the maidservant Melantho.
Further adding layers to the world of the epic are Corey Hawkins as the wealthy Egyptian Polybus and Elyes Gabel as the warrior Elatus. The film also features several other key characters voiced by talents like Andrew Howard as a ‘politician’, Travis Scott as a ‘bard’, and Bill Irwin as the Cyclops.
The supporting cast continues to shine with performances from Samantha Morton as Circe, Charlize Theron as Calypso, and Lupita Nyong’o, who plays both Helen and Clytemnestra. The film is also bolstered by Jon Bernthal as Menelaus and Zendaya as Athena.
While the cast list highlights some of the key figures from the Greek world—including Athena—it also points to characters like Cassandra, Aeolus, and Nausicaa who are present in the source material but not listed in the dubbing roles. This suggests that while many mythological figures are involved, the story will focus on a specific, yet expansive, narrative arc.
With this final major cast list confirmed, anticipation builds for audiences as “The Odyssey” prepares to open in cinemas everywhere on July 17th.
