The cinematic world has a new adventure brewing, spearheaded by filmmakers known for crafting intense action and atmosphere. Dan Trachtenberg, the creator behind titles like Prey and Predator: Badlands, is shifting gears from gritty landscapes to something far more whimsical for his next project.
Trachtenberg is diving into the animated world to co-direct and produce a brand new feature based on the graphic novel Freddy the 13th by Yehudi Mercado. Forget the blood and gore; this Paramount Animation endeavor promises something much lighter, delivering wholesome PG-rated scares and plenty of laughs for the whole family.
The story itself is pure animated fun, following a classic narrative structure where a family vacation takes a decidedly chaotic turn. When fun-loving Uncle Freddy accidentally stumbles upon the Boogeyman, he suddenly gains terrifying powers, forcing the entire family onto an epic quest to break a spooky curse.
Bringing this imaginative story to life will be a collaborative effort. Yehudi Mercado will co-direct the film, working alongside Trachtenberg and Ben Rosenblatt, who are slated to handle the production aspects of the project.
This exciting new animation was officially unveiled during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, signaling a fresh wave of family-friendly fantasy coming from established creative minds.
It’s always great to see studios continue their diverse slate. Paramount Animation will continue to delight audiences with upcoming releases, including PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie set for release on August 14th.
