  • The Warriors musical from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis is coming to Broadway in 2027

In the world of cinema, some stories are carved in concrete, while others exist as pure, kinetic energy. One such classic is The Warriors, a 1979 action thriller that captured the raw pulse of urban life. Inspired by literary sources and a cinematic vision, this film gave us a vibrant look at a street gang navigating hostile territories in New York City.

Now, that legendary tale is finding a new voice—a melodic, pulsating adaptation set to music. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the powerhouse behind Hamilton and In the Heights, alongside writer Eisa Davis, known for her work on Bulrusher, are bringing this gritty narrative to the stage as a musical.

This ambitious project promises to be an explosive blend of cinematic grit and lyrical genius. The story centers on a fictitious New York City gang hailing from Coney Island who embark on a perilous journey to the Bronx. Their adventure takes an unexpected turn when they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader, Cyrus, forcing them to fight their way across hostile territories.

The musical version retains the core tension and heart of the original film, but amplifies the action with song and choreography. It follows the crew as they navigate their path from Coney Island all the way to the Bronx and back when facing serious peril—a journey that is sure to be full of grit and heart.

The creative team behind the musical is a formidable group, featuring talent like Miranda and Davis, who articulated their excitement for the new direction. They described the process as a “fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit,” thrilled by the opportunity to musicalize such a vibrant world.

The production itself is a stunning collaboration. The musical will be staged at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with previews slated for March 2027, leading to an official opening in April 2027. Paramount Products & Experiences is licensing the stage adaptation for this theatrical run.

The creative vision extends beyond the story itself. The musical will feature extensive design elements, including scenic by David Korins and costume design by Dede Ayite, alongside masterful soundscapes and orchestrations by various talents. This commitment to detail ensures that the spectacle is as rich as the narrative.

Adding to the buzz, a concept album sample featuring major musical figures like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and Marc Anthony provided an early taste of the sound this project is aiming for. The anticipation builds as ticket sales are set to begin in October, promising an unforgettable Broadway experience in 2027.
