For decades, the public has celebrated the unparalleled athletic brilliance of Muhammad Ali. But what about the life that existed between the ropes? Amazon Prime Video has recently released a compelling teaser trailer for The Greatest, an authorized scripted series set to explore the rich, often untold personal history of the boxing legend.
This new project aims to move beyond the highlights reel and offer a candid look at Ali’s life, capturing the complexities and human narrative that defined him outside of his legendary fights. Filmed in Toronto earlier this year, the series promises an intimate portrayal of the man behind the iconic persona.
The narrative journey begins in 1960, chronicling the formative years when Ali was known as Cassius Clay, detailing his rise through the ranks before culminating in his historic victory for the heavyweight title in 1964.
The cast is bringing this incredible story to life with a talented ensemble. Jaalen Best joins Omari Hardwick and Dana Gourrier to portray Ali and his wife, Odessa ‘Bird; Clay, offering a nuanced look at their shared experience. Kai Parham steps into the role of Ali’s brother and fellow boxer, Rudy, while Amin Joseph plays the formidable rival Sonny Liston, and Michael Ealy portrays Malcolm X, adding depth to the historical context.
Adding an extra layer of authenticity, Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, is involved as an executive producer. This production is backed by a significant partnership through the Outlier Society banner, which has a deal with Amazon MGM Studios, ensuring high-level creative and production standards.
