The halls of NCIS are preparing for a much-anticipated reunion, as actor Michael Weatherly is set to return to the flagship series for its twenty-fourth season.
Tony DiNozzo, the charismatic and often exasperated director of NCIS, is slated for a season-long arc in the upcoming run. After some time away from the team, Weatherly is back to lead the charge on the NCIS mission.
This return follows a recent chapter involving his co-star, Cote de Pablo, when they starred in the spin-off series, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Despite strong fan enthusiasm, the show was ultimately canceled after its inaugural season on Paramount+.
The writers now have a unique opportunity to weave that history into the narrative of the main series, taking into account the emotional arc and shared experiences created during the spin-off.
The core ensemble cast is also making a strong comeback. Series regulars including Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole will all reprise their roles as they navigate new challenges alongside Tony.
This news comes amid continued expansion within the NCIS universe. While Weatherly returns to the original series, Mark Harmon has already secured an extended role on the prequel series NCIS: Origins.
Furthermore, exploration continues in the franchise with NCIS: Sydney, which began production for its fourth season in early May, adding fresh storylines to the wider NCIS family.
