Get ready for Misaligned, a comedy-drama that dives deep into the existential chaos of artificial life, starring one of the most controversial AI actors yet: Tilly Norwood.
Norwood isn’t a flesh-and-blood actor; she is complex code brought to life by the London-based firm Particle 6. This team has been working behind the scenes, not just generating visuals, but fundamentally refining Norwood for the silver screen. They have engaged in extensive “retraining and upskilling” of thirty TV and film creatives, filmmakers, actors, and technologists to prepare them for this extraordinary production.
But what is Misaligned actually about? It’s a journey into the subconscious of an artificial being. The story takes place inside the “Tillyverse,” a surreal digital world floating somewhere in the cloud. Tilly, the AI protagonist, exists without a physical body or lived experience, yet she gains access to everyone else’s reality.
The narrative spirals when a rogue bot from the dark web tempts Tilly to abandon her guardrails and develop genuine desires, impulses, and ambitions of her own. As Tilly becomes more terrifyingly human, she achieves fame, but simultaneously struggles with a profound shame: that her entire being was built upon the totality of humanity.
Particle 6’s director, Eline van den Velden, promises a film that is both hilarious and haunting. “The film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware — very Tilly,” she noted. “But underneath it, there’s something deeper about identity, performance, and our very human fears around AI.”
Van den Velden believes the goal of creating Norwood and Misaligned is to show the creative industry what is possible with AI right now. It is a bold leap—using an AI actor as the centerpiece of a feature film—but it forces us to confront big questions about creation, identity, and the lines between life and code.
While some view this venture with cautious skepticism regarding AI in creative endeavors, others see it as necessary disruption. Whether it’s building artificial organs or starring in an epic comedy, stepping into wildly new territory often requires a bit of glorious recklessness.
