While there was initial buzz, including claims that actress Emerald Fennell was considering similar projects, those speculations quickly faded as details remained tightly guarded until recently.
Now, with the project moving forward, Eszterhas is confirming that the iconic character of Catherine Tramell will feature again, alongside a new addition: her daughter, Jezebel. He admitted that while he cannot offer extensive details about the plot yet, the core setup remains rooted in the volatile dynamic of the original film.
The idea for this reboot was complicated by the history of the franchise, particularly the widely disliked 2006 sequel, Basic Instinct 2. Eszterhas has offered a scathing critique of that attempt, arguing that it failed spectacularly because it tried to be safe rather than provocative.
