Actress Molly Ringwald recently offered a candid assessment of her career highs and lows, ranking one of her most significant TV roles as the absolute worst experience of her professional journey.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Ringwald shared her honest take on The Secret Life of the American Teenager. When asked to rate the ABC Family series during a project-ranking game, she gave it a disappointing one out of ten.
While she offered glowing praise for much of the ensemble cast and singled out kind words for lead Shailene Woodley, Ringwald admitted that the entire experience was marred by a single difficult cast member. Although she declined to name this individual, she emphasized their profoundly negative impact on the production.
The series, which aired across five seasons from 2008 to 2013, featured Ringwald as Anne, Amy’s mother, appearing in all 96 episodes. The ensemble also included Ken Baumann, Mark Derwin, India Eisley, Greg Finley, and Steve Schirripa.
The contrast between this experience and her other projects is stark. Ringwald spoke warmly about her time on Pretty in Pink, awarding the 1986 John Hughes film a perfect ten out of ten. She described the film as something that felt entirely written for her.
Furthermore, she recalled plans that never materialized, noting that John Hughes had intended to collaborate on another project with her and Matthew Broderick, which was set to be titled Oil and Vinegar. Despite those aspirations, the opportunity ultimately fell through, leaving behind a perfect memory of classic cinema.
