Alien Invasion Sci-Fi Horror First Look Teaser

There’s still plenty of mystery out there, and young filmmakers are proving that some of the scariest things can come wrapped in absurd humor. Dark Star Pictures has recently dropped the first teaser trailer for Our Effed Up World, an indie sci-fi horror film that promises to be a wild ride for fans of cosmic chaos and quirky comedy.

The project is the latest offering from trans filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay, who has established herself with creative works such as T Blockers and Satranic Panic. This new venture builds upon her previous successes, hinting at a world where survival hinges on wit as much as grit.

The film is set up as an alien invasion story. The narrative follows Sheri as she grapples with the profound loss of her grandmother when a mysterious entity crashes in the nearby woods. Soon, only Sheri and her friends find themselves standing between the survival of the world and an alien hunger poised to consume them all.

Mackay’s approach to the genre is delightfully irreverent. The film pays homage to classic cinematic oddities, drawing inspiration from films like Killer Klowns from Outer Space while incorporating the cutesy girl-power vibes of The Powerpuff Girls. This fusion results in a sense of humor that is both absurd and biting—a perfect blend of high stakes and ridiculousness.

The cast assembled for this adventure is packed with talent, featuring stars such as Sara Thompson, Annapurna Sriram, Jess McLeod, Scott Major, Brandon Flynn, Jordan Dulieu, Jack Haven, Leela Varghese, Chris Gun, and Tommy Dorfman.

Fans of homemade sci-fi that embraces the bizarre will find much to explore in this film. Our Effed Up World is scheduled to premiere soon at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal this summer, though a final release date is still pending.
