The surfing legends of the Pacific are getting a cinematic reboot. AMC has officially given the green light for an eight-episode first season of a new series based on the iconic 1991 film, Point Break.
This ambitious project signals a return to the high-octane action and rebellious spirit of the original, setting the stage for a new generation of cinematic thrills. Filming for the series is slated to begin in early 2027, with the production taking place in the stunning landscapes of Australia.
The story delves into a world 35 years after the original, introducing a fresh heist crew inspired by the infamous Ex-Presidents. The narrative thrust places the FBI on a mission to infiltrate this new group, relying on a mysterious ex-pro surfer with a checkered past to succeed.
The cinematic blueprint draws directly from the unforgettable cast of the original, featuring stars like Keanu Reeves, who portrayed the rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah, alongside the legacy of Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty, and Gary Busey.
At the helm of this creative venture are established names. David Kalstein, known for works like Treadstone and Butterfly, will serve as the creator and executive producer, collaborating with Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Ben Roberts to bring the vision to life.
