Andrew Schulz joins the cast of Miami Vice ’85

Miami Vice ’85

The neon glow of the 1980s is calling, and the cinematic legends of the era are back on the marquee. Joseph Kosinski’s ambitious remake of Miami Vice ’85 is gearing up for production, promising a return to the decade’s most unforgettable aesthetic and its intoxicating blend of glamour and corruption.

Adding another layer of star power to this visually stunning project is comedic talent Andrew Schulz. While the exact role is still unfolding, Schulz is set to bring some much-needed comedic relief to the neon-soaked crime landscape of 1985 Miami. His extensive resume, which includes notable work in series like Tires and films such as Underdoggs and The Thicket, suggests he is ready to inject fresh energy into this iconic visual world.

The cast of the remake is already dazzling, featuring major names like Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan, who will embody the roles of James “Sonny” Crockett and Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, respectively. The supporting ensemble is equally compelling, with additions like Alden Ehrenreich and Whitney Peak, set to explore the intense relationships that defined the era.

Adding to the visual spectacle, Camila Morrone has been announced as a potential love interest for Crockett, having already shared chemistry with Butler. The entire ensemble is converging on a tale set in one of the most stylized and drug-fueled cities of the decade.

The inspiration for this project is the original, groundbreaking television series that cemented the look and feel of the era. The original Miami Vice aired for five seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1989, delivering 111 episodes that redefined television with its cinematic pacing, pulsating pop music, and incredible 80s fashion. It was a cultural phenomenon, following undercover vice detectives navigating the drug trade and organized crime in Miami.

The film adaptation, however, promises a different perspective. Unlike its 2006 cinematic predecessor, the new version will lean into a period piece format, exploring the deep glamour and inherent corruption that simmered beneath the surface of mid-80’s Miami. Director Kosinski plans to capture this nostalgic vision using IMAX cameras, promising an immersive experience that matches the visual intensity of the original series.

With the screenplay penned by Dan Gilroy, known for his sharp storytelling in films like Nightcrawler, the production is poised to deliver a high-octane look at a bygone era. Fans can now look forward to this epic visual journey, which is slated for release on May 19, 2028.
