Angel Studios Unveils Content Pledge to Redefine Values-Driven Entertainment
Angel Studios, the creative force behind popular faith-based hits like Sound of Freedom and Young Washington, has announced a significant new content policy designed to solidify its commitment to values-driven storytelling. This new framework, dubbed The Angel Promise, sets clear boundaries for all films and series produced under the studio’s banner.
The policy, unveiled by co-founder and CCO Jeff Harmon, addresses concerns over the drift of mainstream Hollywood away from audiences seeking faith-based narratives. Harmon noted that while Hollywood remains an excellent place for craftsmanship and storytelling, it has moved away from serving the values-based demographic that once formed its core audience.
The Angel Promise outlines explicit guidelines for content. These rules prohibit the inclusion of on-screen sex and nudity, the use of profanity, and any misuse of God’s name in submitted titles, particularly those aimed at younger viewers (under 12).
Beyond these content restrictions, the studio has introduced a unique form of audience participation. To ensure that content aligns with its community’s expectations, films and television series must receive a score of at least 70 out of 100 from the members of the paid Angel Guild audience. With approximately 3 million paying members in the Angel Guild community, this system grants the audience a direct veto right over the content released.
Harmon emphasized the significance of this approach, stating that this represents a historic moment where a major studio has empowered its audience with a direct voice in the content landscape. This mechanism seeks to ensure that entertainment reflects the values of the community it serves.
Angel Studios is poised to continue this commitment by releasing upcoming titles, including Drummer Boy and Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ, demonstrating that blending high-quality storytelling with core values is a powerful direction in modern entertainment.
