Anne Hathaway steals the scene while unconscious

Sometimes, the most dramatic moments in cinema happen when you least expect them. In the making of the psychological thriller Verity, a moment of pure, unexpected magic occurred on set involving the celebrated pair of Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway.

While filming their initial scenes, Hartnett and Hathaway were navigating the complex dynamics of their characters, Jeremy Crawford and his wife, Verity. Hartnett recounted that he was tasked with carrying Hathaway outside a house while her character was supposed to remain completely still. However, in a moment of spontaneous brilliance, Hathaway made a small, unexpected movement—her arm dropped, followed by her head. Hartnett called the moment incredibly dramatic, joking that she had essentially stolen the scene when she was supposed to be unconscious.

Hathaway’s witty response only added to the lighthearted atmosphere, but the incident highlighted the unique dynamic between the actors. Hartnett described Hathaway as one of the most professional performers he had ever worked with, praising the clarity with which she understood her character. He noted that she was incredibly cerebral, possessing a clear vision for what she wanted to create, which he found deeply comforting.

Yet, this professional clarity was beautifully balanced by a playful energy. Hartnett confessed that he adored the side of Hathaway that enjoyed having fun and playing around during the filming process. He felt that this unexpected movement perfectly showcased that playful side, describing her as a wily performer.

The story of Verity itself delves into the disturbing world of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. It follows Lowen Ashleigh as she moves into the Crawford home to finish Verity’s unfinished books, only to discover writings that raise chilling questions about the family’s history and the fate of their lives.

Directed by Michael Showalter, the film also features talents like Ismael Cruz Córdova and Chase Infiniti, promising a compelling visual and narrative experience. Verity is set to arrive in theaters on October 2, 2026.
