Avengers Doomsday doubles Deadpool Wolverine ticket sales

The wait is finally over. Marvel Studios dropped the full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday yesterday, kicking off an unprecedented wave of ticket sales and setting the stage for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.

From the moment the trailer hit the screens, the buzz was palpable. The box office reaction confirms that audiences are hungry for this epic confrontation, with first-day advance ticket sales hitting an impressive $16.5 million.

This initial success immediately drew comparisons to Marvel’s recent juggernaut, Deadpool & Wolverine, which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. In a truly spectacular comparison, the pre-sales for Doomsday were twice as high as those for its predecessor.

The scale of the operation is staggering. While Deadpool & Wolverine tickets were available across all formats and screens, the initial run for Doomsday was deliberately focused on premium formats, limited to just 1,000 theaters domestically. As the film prepares for its full release, expectations are mounting: when it hits theaters on December 18, plans are underway to expand availability across more than 4,000 screens nationwide.

Demand has been astronomical, leading exhibitors to scramble for screenings. Insiders suggest that premium showtimes on December 17 and 18 are already nearly sold out, prompting theaters to add extra screenings for Christmas Day and beyond.

Beyond the ticket sales, the marketing campaign surrounding Doomsday has proven a massive hit online. The official trailer racked up 503 million views within its first 24 hours, demonstrating a fervent global audience.

While it didn’t quite break the record for the single biggest movie trailer launch ever—that honor still belongs to Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day with 719 million views—the trailer has officially surpassed all previous milestones. It is now Disney’s most-viewed trailer to date, easily eclipsing the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl teaser, which amassed 365 million views.

Fans are ready for more action, and Marvel Studios is gearing up for a major appearance at San Diego Comic-Con. The team is set to present major announcements during their Hall H presentation on July 25, positioning Avengers: Doomsday as a central focus of the convention.
