Bloodaxe: A New Norse Saga Set to Ignite the Screen
Prepare for a plunge into the brutal realities of the 10th century, as the creative force behind the beloved “Vikings” and “The Tudors,” Michael Hirst, steps into a new era with his son, Horatio Hirst. He is bringing a fresh Norse saga to life with Bloodaxe, a series promising epic conflict, complex betrayals, and the raw struggle for power among the Norse.
This new adventure sets aside the previous narratives to explore the intense personal and political turmoil faced by the formidable duo of Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux) and Gunnhild (Madsen). The story is not merely about raiding; it is a deep dive into the volatile landscape where rivalries, fierce loyalties, and treacherous betrayals tear apart the foundations of the kingdom.
As the kingdom braces for inevitable conflict, the chaos extends far beyond the fjords. The saga pulls in other Scandinavian kings and even an English monarch, weaving a massive tapestry of interconnected conflicts that threaten to engulf the entire region.
The series delivers a powerful portrayal of ambition and survival, focusing on how personal stakes escalate into massive geopolitical struggles. We follow the journey of these characters as they navigate a world defined by blood, iron, and relentless ambition.
The ensemble cast is stacked with talent perfectly suited to these dramatic roles, featuring strong performances from Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, Levi Miller, Karlis Arnolds Avots, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen.
Behind the lens, the production team, including Morgan O’Sullivan, Steve Stark, Arturo Interian, John Weber, and Sheila Hockin, has crafted a world brimming with historical weight and dramatic tension. The spectacle is backed by a compelling narrative structure.
Bloodaxe is set to premiere on the streaming platform on January 20th, 2027. And the momentum is only building, as a second season is already in production, ensuring that the saga continues its epic journey into the heart of the Norse world.
