Blumhouse Filming Amanda The Adventurer
The Attic Holds Secrets: Blumhouse Prepares to Adapt Puzzle-Horror Classic
The world of puzzle-horror is about to get a haunting new chapter, as Blumhouse Productions is developing a live-action film adaptation of DreadXP’s beloved indie video game series, Amanda the Adventurer.
At the heart of the story is a chilling premise rooted in nostalgia and unease. The narrative follows Riley Park, a young girl left behind to explore the confines of her reclusive Aunt Kate’s house after her passing. It is within the shadows of this old home that Riley discovers a trove of forgotten history: a stack of VHS tapes tucked away in the attic, next to an old television set.
These tapes hint at a secret world. They appear to be episodes from an early 2000s children’s cartoon that Riley has never seen before, featuring a little girl named Amanda and her loyal, shy best friend, Wooly the Sheep.
What begins as a seemingly charming discovery quickly descends into something far more unsettling. As Riley watches the tapes, she soon realizes that Amanda and Wooly are not just characters on screen; they seem to be communicating directly with her through the television. A gnawing sense of dread begins to settle over Riley, compelling her to continue watching, driven by an irresistible curiosity about the truth lying behind the screen.
The mystery deepens, suggesting that Amanda may be seeking something, and Riley becomes obsessed with uncovering the secret that binds the little girl and her sheep to the tapes.
Bringing this unfolding mystery to the screen will be a familiar and highly anticipated name. Former host of the popular series The Runner, Matthew ‘MatPat’ Patrick will spearhead the film’s development, marking his first major multi-film deal. He will also be involved in the production alongside producer Patrick Ewald, lending his unique perspective to the dark, whimsical world of the adaptation.
This project is set to blend the playful innocence of childhood cartoons with the creeping tension of puzzle-horror, promising a cinematic experience that is both nostalgic and deeply unnerving.
