Get ready to question everything you thought you knew about childhood nightmares, because Roadside Attractions has dropped another tantalizing glimpse into the bizarre world of “Buddy,” the latest horror feature that charmed audiences at the Sundance Film Festival.

This film is brought to life by the distinctive vision of filmmaker Casper Kelly, a creator whose work includes beloved segments like Too Many Cooks and Adult Swim Yule Log. Kelly brings his signature blend of surrealism and unsettling humor to this new adventure.

The story pulls us back to 1999, where reality dissolves into the peculiar, episodic existence of “It’s Buddy!”, a children’s television program ruled by a tyrannical figure: Buddy. This is not your typical story about lost children; it’s a journey into the mind of amnesiac kids trapped in a world led by Buddy, a bright orange, humanoid unicorn with a purple heart who reigns over his wacky clubhouse.

When one of the children vanishes, defiance sets in. In a desperate bid for freedom, Buddy unleashes a terrifying pursuit, sending his captives on a perilous quest to reach the mythical Diamond City.

Adding another layer of intensity, the film balances this surreal adventure with a grounded reality. In the real world, a traumatized suburban mother named Grace (played by Cristin Milioti) finds herself drawn into Buddy’s monstrous domain. The ensemble cast brings a captivating mix of talent to the screen, featuring Delaney Quinn, Topher Grace, Keegan-Michael Key, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt.

Casper Kelly steered the film, co-writing the script with Jamie King, while a team including Tyler Davidson, Drew Sykes, Raphael Margules, J.D. Lifshitz, and Tracy Rosenblum handled production. Get ready for this unique blend of kids’ horror, surreal fantasy, and adult absurdity.

Buddy” is set to arrive in cinemas on August 28th, promising a ride that is as bizarre as it is frightening.
