Chase Infiniti leads Portrait of God
Chase Infiniti is trading in her breakout role in the Best Picture winner One Battle After Another for a dive into the unsettling world of religious horror with her upcoming feature, Portrait of God.
Infiniti will star in the project helmed by rising filmmaker Dylan Clark, a director known for crafting conceptually rich and unsettling narratives. The feature expands upon Clark’s viral, seven-and-a-half-minute horror short of the same name, creating a deeper exploration of the themes that have captivated audiences on YouTube.
The foundation of the film lies in the minimalist short, which introduces a religious young woman named Mia. In the short, Mia attempts to present a slide presentation about a piece of art dubbed Portrait of God, leading to a startling revelation about the nature of the divine. While some viewers interpret the painting as pure darkness, others report seeing a distinct, detailed figure emerging from the shadows—an entity that is decidedly not benevolent.
This concept taps into Clark’s established success, as he has built a substantial following by expertly blending religious iconography and technological concepts within the horror genre. The short film, which premiered in August 2022, quickly amassed millions of views, demonstrating a potent appetite for stories that blur the lines between faith, philosophy, and fear.
For the feature film, Clark teamed up with writer Joe Russo to craft a narrative that deepens these themes of divine mystery and visual shock. The project is slated for production under the labels of Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures, marking a first-time collaboration between the two production houses.
The feature film Portrait of God promises to expand on the visual and spiritual quandaries presented in the short, offering audiences a unique and intense experience that pushes the boundaries of genre horror. Chase Infiniti is set to lead this cinematic venture, bringing her compelling presence to Clark’s mind-bending vision.
