HBO Max is gearing up for a lavish family reunion, confirming that a new television series based on the beloved rom-com smash hit, Crazy Rich Asians, is officially in development.

The announcement confirms that the saga will translate the dazzling world of Kevin Kwan’s books into an eight-episode original drama series, promising an in-depth look at the complex characters and worlds that captivated audiences.

The project is anchored by an incredible ensemble cast, bringing back the stars who defined the original film. Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng, and Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh have all signed on as series regulars, ready to bring their unique chemistry to the screen.

Beyond the star power, the creative team is equally stacked. Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, has stepped into the role of showrunner and executive producer, guiding the narrative vision for the series.

Adding to the production team are director Jon M. Chu, alongside Emmy-winning producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, ensuring a high-caliber execution of this opulent story.

Lim expressed palpable excitement about the project, describing it as a true family reunion. “It’s a ‘Crazy Rich’ family reunion! This series is the sequel we’ve been waiting for, but instead of just one movie, we get eight episodes to delve into the characters and worlds of Kevin Kwan’s brilliant books,” she stated.

She added that collaborating with the original creative team, supported by the vision of HBO and Warner Bros. Television, has been a dream, noting that the writers room is currently humming with anticipation.

The production is a joint effort between HBO and Warner Bros. Television, setting the stage for a highly anticipated series that promises to deliver the extravagant drama fans have been craving.
