A24 and Peacock are stirring up the waters of horror history with fresh visuals for their upcoming prequel series, Crystal Lake. The new posters don’t just tease familiar faces; they promise a deep dive into the psychological origins of one of horror’s most enduring legends.

These promotional images introduce Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and Callum Vinson as the boy who will eventually embrace his destiny as a supernatural serial killer. The campaign is anchored by the sharp, evocative tagline: “Before Jason…There Was Pamela.”

The visual tease sets a tone that promises more than just jump scares. Behind the compelling artwork, director and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane recently shared insights about how this new narrative diverges from the classic slasher mold of the 1980s films.

Kane made it clear that while the series builds upon the iconic framework of Friday the 13th, it intends to deliver a genuinely unsettling psychological thriller. He elaborated that the story is less about simple hack-and-slash and more about an evolution—a disturbing devolution of events that explore complex themes.

“You watch the first four episodes, and you go ‘Okay. They are telling a story, and there’s a little bit of paranoid conspiracy thriller here, and it’s a psychological devolution or evolution, however you want to put it; but where’s Friday the 13th?’ Pam goes full ‘Friday the 13th’ in this season, and you will see it….There are a series of kills that are everything the movies do, and, hopefully, it will satisfy the real hunt hack-and-slash fans, too; we build to it, but it’s coming.”

The series centers on the tragic story of single mother Pam Voorhees, haunted by the grief following her young son Jason’s accidental drowning in the town lake nearly a year prior. When two strangers arrive, digging into Pamela’s buried past, a disturbing chain of events is set in motion, leaving the residents of Crystal Lake questioning who exactly this woman is.

The cast promises an ensemble approach to this deep dive into trauma and madness, featuring William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Nick Cordileone, Danielle Kotch, Phoenix Parnevik, Nancy Nagrant, and Joy Suprano.

The production is helmed by executive producers Victor Miller, Marc Toberoff, Robert M. Barsamian, Robert P. Barsamian, and Stuart Manashil. Fans can prepare for this exploration of motherhood, grief, and the dark consequences of trauma as Crystal Lake premieres on Peacock on October 15th.
