Delroy Lindo is making a significant artistic leap, stepping behind the camera for his directorial debut with Jabari’s People, a compelling family drama set in the vibrant landscapes of Jamaica. This new project brings together a powerhouse ensemble, featuring actors drawn from both the MCU and DCU universes, promising a rich tapestry of storytelling.

The film centers on Jabari, a Brooklyn teenager who navigates profound personal challenges after his mother’s sudden death. Forced to move to Jamaica’s Blue Mountains, Jabari must confront the complexities of family, grief, identity, and the weight of inheritance as he settles in with his estranged grandparents.

Lindo takes on the role of Jabari’s grandfather, weaving the personal journey of the protagonist with the dramatic backdrop of a new homeland. The story explores the powerful intersection of personal loss and cultural identity as Jabari grapples with his place within a new and complex family structure.

The production process brought together a stellar cast, including Winston Duke, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Wendell Pierce, and Seyi Andes-Pelumi. Their collective talents are bringing the script to life, creating a deeply resonant and emotionally authentic experience for the audience.

Lindo’s decision to direct came after he acquired the film’s rights in 2021. He shared that this choice was deeply personal, noting that the story resonated with him on a profound level, touching him in his soul as a person of Jamaican extraction.

The creative journey has been equally rewarding. Lindo expressed his excitement watching the cast bring the narrative to fruition, noting that he is experiencing moments of pure joy as they realize the vision on screen.

Before diving into directing, Lindo has built an impressive career spanning several decades across film and television. His extensive credits include notable works directed by Spike Lee, such as Malcolm X and Crooklyn. His television work further showcases his versatility, with roles in series like The Good Fight and Unprisoned.
