Die Hard Replacement hits final box office milestone
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day continuing its ascent toward the all-time domestic box office record, the focus of cinematic excitement has largely been on the superhero spectacle. However, a deeper dive into the box office reveals a contrasting landscape in the lower-tier releases, where other genre films experienced a decidedly more mixed, and often frustrating, run.
While the top spots belonged to the blockbusters, the rest of the movie market offered a study in varied performance. Ridley Scott’s foray into science fiction, The Dog Stars, attempted to make a splash but only managed to register around $3 million in its second weekend, slipping just outside the top ten.
The action genre also faced a challenging weekend. Adam Wingard’s action-thriller for A24, Onslaught, generated approximately $2 million in its opening frame. Similarly, another action movie, Fall 2: Deadpoint, pulled in around $2.7 million.
These results painted a picture of an uneven weekend for films outside the mainstream spotlight. While some movies found their footing, others struggled to maintain momentum, demonstrating that even outside the biggest franchises, the box office remains a highly unpredictable place for cinematic ventures.
