Director hasn’t read the script for Fast Forever

The world of blockbuster filmmaking is buzzing with anticipation, but when it comes to the sprawling Fast franchise, the future remains shrouded in a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Despite expectations for director Louis Leterrier to return to the reins after directing Fast X, the path to the eleventh entry, titled Fast Forever, is proving to be more complicated than a simple sequel.

The production journey has already hit some significant snags. While star Vin Diesel initially aimed for a March 2028 release, other key figures have expressed reservations about the massive undertaking. Alan Ritchson, who stars in the series, publicly noted that the project was viewed as “too expensive” and faced considerable hurdles moving forward.

However, amidst the financial and logistical challenges, there are flashes of creative brilliance. Vin Diesel recently shared some encouraging news, revealing that writer Michael Leslie had submitted a script for consideration, which Diesel called the “best script I have read in decades.” This suggests that while the practical hurdles exist, the creative core of the project is undeniably compelling.

The fate of the franchise now rests on finding a way to bring this vision to fruition. When asked about his personal involvement and timing, Leterrier offered a candid perspective. He explained that he is currently focusing on finishing another film before diving into the next chapter of the Fast saga.

Despite his current focus, Leterrier insists that the franchise must reach its conclusion. “They built a ride! They have to finish it. Someone has to end it,” he stated, emphasizing the need to provide a satisfying ending for the characters and the world they have created.

When pressed about the script mentioned by Diesel, Leterrier admitted he hasn’t yet reviewed it, though his reasons are rooted in wanting to experience the finale firsthand. “I’d love to tell you the full truth, but I can’t,” he remarked. He added that having been fortunate enough to be part of the franchise and loving Vin and Universal, he is hopeful for the eventual outcome: “We’ll see, hopefully.”

At this point, there is no confirmed timeline for when Fast Forever might enter production. The focus remains on navigating the creative ambition with the necessary commercial reality, hoping to deliver a truly epic conclusion that satisfies fans of the series.
