Disney Alum: Cocaine drew the attention she craved

When fame hits, some people seek attention in the most unconventional ways. For Christy Carlson Romano, a Disney alum known for voicing Kim Possible, the quest for visibility took an unexpected turn, leading her to explore substances in her early twenties.

Romano recently opened up about a personal experience that seems to have been a catalyst for a significant shift in how she viewed her public image. In a candid conversation, she revealed that she experimented with cocaine at a party hosted by Paris Hilton, admitting that while she didn’t personally enjoy the drug, she found the attention it generated undeniably powerful.

For Romano, the act was less about intoxication and more about control. She felt that seeking out this kind of exposure was a reaction to a long-standing frustration: the inability to manage her celebrity image in the press. She noted that before the age of social media, celebrities had little to no control over how the media portrayed them.

“It was whatever the paparazzi, TMZ, Page Six really saw of you… that was how you were able to change people’s opinion of you,” she explained. Romano suggested that this attention was a deliberate tactic to seize control over her narrative.

This desire for visibility was part of a broader pattern of seeking recognition, which she linked to her earlier experiences clubbing aggressively just to get noticed. Romano reflected on how the media landscape has changed, noting that in the social media age, a celebrity’s image is constantly under scrutiny, yet the power dynamics remain complex.

This personal journey of seeking attention is unfolding alongside Romano’s professional endeavors. She is currently preparing to release her memoir, Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child, further exploring themes of identity and public perception.

Romano’s creative career continues to evolve, as she prepares for new projects. She is set to play Nicole in an upcoming television movie, Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True, following her previous voice work on Kim Possible in episodes of Chibiverse.
