Doctor Who brings Satan Pit to cinema
Get ready for a cinematic blast of cosmic horror and time-bending adventure. In a collaboration between the BBC and CinemaLive, a special extended cut of two beloved Doctor Who episodes is heading to the cinemas to mark the show’s 20th anniversary.
The feature is Doctor Who: The Satan Pit – Extended Cut, offering a newly re-edited, movie-length cinematic experience of the two-parter story, The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit, which were part of the show’s second season revival.
Fans will get more than just a rewatch. This extended edition goes deep into the lore, featuring deleted scenes previously kept only on DVD, now restored and woven into the narrative. Plus, viewers will catch never-before-seen extended footage that expands on the action and mystery of the adventure.
The story plunges the Doctor and Rose into some of their darkest and most unforgettable journeys. It begins when the TARDIS lands on Sanctuary Base 6, a remote outpost orbiting a black hole. The special screening will be a one-night-only event, taking place on Doctor Who Day, November 23rd. It will be available across over 1,000 cinema screens throughout the UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
To celebrate the cinematic release, the event will also feature an exclusive interview with the director of the episodes, James Strong, who will reflect on the creative process behind these memorable stories.
