Dog Stars $8M while Spider-Man rules the box office
When summer heat and cinematic expectations collided, Disney and 20th Century’s sprawling post-apocalyptic thriller, The Dog Stars, seemed to melt under the pressure of the opening weekend.

Across 3,330 locations, The Dog Stars opened domestically to just $8 million. This figure resulted in a fifth-place finish among the opening weekend releases, signaling that the film had yet to quite capture the public’s imagination.
For a production of this scale, the performance suggests that while the spectacle was grand, the connection with audiences was less than expected. The film, set against a dramatic backdrop, faced the challenge of translating its epic vision into widespread enthusiasm during the dog days of summer.
