Elizabeth Wagmeister teams up with Hollywood stars
As the entertainment world gears up for the prestigious Emmy Awards, CNN anchor Elizabeth Wagmeister is stepping into a role that promises to bring some of Hollywood’s brightest stars directly into the spotlight. Having joined the multinational media company in 2023 to cover entertainment from Los Angeles, Wagmeister is now set to host an exclusive pre-Emmy interview series.
Titled Coming Up, this series will offer viewers an intimate look at the careers, performances, and achievements of the nominees and stars shaping the industry. Wagmeister will sit down with a handpicked group of Emmy favorites, including Colman Domingo, Paul W. Downs, Allison Janney, Katherine LaNasa, Ariana Madix, Matthew Rhys, and Jessica Williams. These conversations will delve into the fascinating journeys behind their celebrated work.
The series is timed perfectly, airing during the Emmy voting window, which runs from August 17 to August 26. It serves as a wonderful opportunity to explore the multifaceted careers of these talent, offering unique insights beyond the awards themselves.
Wagmeister’s experience covering high-profile events has already honed her ability to navigate the glamorous, often complex, world of celebrity. Prior to this exciting new venture, she recently covered the Oscars red carpet, where she reflected on the unique demands of media coverage. She shared her thoughts on the experience, addressing the perception that red carpet events are simply “fun and games.”
The reality, she noted, is far more demanding: “The reality of a red carpet is, you see how long it is here, and you have no idea who you’re going to get. So that means that you have to prepare to speak with every single nominee, every single presenter, every single cast member, producer, songwriter from the films, even if they’re not individual nominees. So you have to be ready for everything,” the anchor said.
This approach—preparing for every angle—is clearly a hallmark of Wagmeister’s work. Before joining CNN, she cultivated experience working with several well-known media entities, including TV Guide, Hollywood Life, and Variety. Her commitment to the industry has also been recognized, as she made it onto the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2019.
