In a sobering assessment of the current state of the European media landscape, the French government bodies delivered stark figures regarding the performance of France’s audiovisual content exports for 2025.

The French National Film Board (CNC) and Unifrance jointly highlighted that the success of exporting French television content is currently being hampered by significant external pressures. They attributed a sharp decline in international sales to a combination of factors, primarily citing a deteriorating economic environment and numerous market uncertainties.

This challenging climate has directly impacted the industry’s reach. International sales of French audiovisual programs dropped by a significant 21.6% during the year.

Despite these headwinds, the total international revenue generated from these programs reached €164.3 million, or approximately $190.8 million.

Crucially, this figure marks the lowest level recorded for French audiovisual exports, signaling a serious challenge for creators and distributors operating in the global market.

The report serves as a clear indicator that while France continues to produce high-quality and engaging content, the pathway to international monetization faces considerable obstacles posed by fluctuating economic conditions and market volatility.
