Glen Powell plays Lou Gehrig in a Linklater film

The duo, who previously collaborated on the film Everybody Wants Some!, are re-teaming to craft a fresh perspective on the story of Lou Gehrig. This upcoming untitled biopic is set to hit Universal Pictures, promising an immersive look at the life and legacy of the seven-time All-Star who defined an era of the game.

Powell will step into the iconic shoes of New York Yankee legend Lou Gehrig, bringing a compelling energy to the role. The project boasts an impressive creative team assembling behind the vision: Linklater is attached to direct, while Simon Rich is tasked with writing the narrative. The production also includes Lorne Michaels, Dan Cohen, and Erin David, ensuring that this film benefits from a rich tapestry of experience.

Lou Gehrig’s story is steeped in remarkable achievement. He remains etched in history as one of baseball’s all-time greats, playing an incredible 2,130 consecutive games throughout his career. His tenure with the Yankees was legendary, culminating in six World Series titles.

Tragically, Gehrig’s playing career ended abruptly when he was diagnosed with what would become known as ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. He passed away in 1941 at the age of 37, leaving behind a monumental legacy that continues to inspire generations.
