The core of the story revolves around an awkward teen and her Type-A mother on a journey of self-discovery. As they explore their world, they learn that the secrets held within their family may be far more enchanted than they ever imagined. The premise alone is enough to spark curiosity: what happens when you discover you are somehow special?
Leading this enchanting tale are two powerhouse talents, Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones, who bring incredible depth and charisma to the lead roles. Their chemistry, coupled with the whimsical world they inhabit, suggests a story full of heartwarming moments and thrilling magical discoveries.
The supporting cast is equally stellar, featuring memorable voices that add rich texture to the magical narrative. The ensemble includes Tracey Ullman, who voices the enchanting feather quill pen Ms. Quill, and Stephen Fry, who brings the voice of the magical journal, Elias Quire. Adding comedic and compelling depth is Jodie Foster as Queen Celeste, the formidable villainous queen of the witches, and Walton Goggins as Beef Roger Crumbchuck, a delightfully eccentric three-eyed green cat.
Director Jason Hand has offered a glimpse into the heart of the film, describing Hexed as a place where the protagonist begins to feel truly seen for the first time. “Billie embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her own family,” Hand explains.
Whether borrowing from classic Disney storytelling or forging a new path entirely, the film promises a vibrant, amusing, and empowering experience. With the official trailer out, anticipation is building for this imaginative journey into the realm of magic and self-acceptance. Mark your calendars: Hexed arrives in theaters starting in November 2026.
