HBO Chief Unveils Future TV Seasons
The future of television is looking gloriously expensive, and Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys, has just laid out the roadmap for the network’s upcoming slate. Speaking about the television landscape and the Emmy eligibility window for next year, Bloys confirmed a tantalizing collection of new seasons and limited series poised to hit the screens before May 31st, 2027.
The lineup is packed with high-profile dramas and prestige television. Viewers can anticipate new seasons of beloved hits like The Pitt Season 3, a return to opulent storytelling, and highly anticipated seasons of The White Lotus and The Gilded Age, both gearing up for their fourth installments. Further additions to the rotation include the highly anticipated Rooster Season 2, I Love L.A Season 2, and the limited series The Trial of Louise Woodward.
Beyond these major productions, the schedule signals continued investment in genre television. Bloys also confirmed that the highly talked-about gay hockey drama, Heated Rivalry, is moving forward with a second season. Though it was ineligible for some nominations due to its Canadian production status, Bloys was thrilled, calling it “the greatest acquisition in the history of television.” Production is underway, with a major premiere slated for New York in the spring.
The HBO/Max vault is also keeping some major sagas simmering. News about The Last of Us confirms that Season 3 will air in 2027, though a specific date is still pending. It appears that showrunner Craig Mazin has planned this installment as the final chapter, suggesting a deliberate and epic conclusion to one of the most celebrated stories in recent memory.
Meanwhile, other flagship series are busy moving through the production pipeline. Task Season 2 is currently halfway through filming, with an expected release sometime in the latter half of the year. Even beloved institutions like Game of Thrones are following their established arcs, with the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the final season of House of the Dragon already in the works.
While the pipeline is full of exciting new content, some long-running series are currently holding their breath. There are no updates on when viewers can expect True Detective Season 5 or Big Little Lies Season 3. And in a delightful twist, Nathan Fielder is reportedly still tinkering with an idea for more The Rehearsal, keeping the door open for further creative exploration.
