Ice, Fire, and Film: Heated Rivalry Hits the Big Screen

Get ready to trade your streaming couch for the cinema, because the highly anticipated series Heated Rivalry is making its debut on the big screen. Nearly a year after this gay hockey romance sensation captivated audiences on Crave and HBO Max, the show is officially heading to theaters across North America, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.

This cinematic expansion allows fans to experience the high-stakes drama and undeniable chemistry of the series in a new light. The move signals a major acknowledgment of the show’s status as a pop culture phenomenon, bringing the story of intense, complicated rivalries to a broader, shared experience.

The theatrical rollout is being handled by a major partner, Sphere Abacus, in collaboration with Regal Cinemas in the U.S. Regal plans to deliver this excitement to over 275 locations, bringing the series to a massive 650 theaters nationwide, including AMC and Cinemark locations.

But the experience goes beyond just watching the film. The screenings will be layered with special content, featuring welcome appearances from the cast and director, alongside limited-time themed cocktails designed to capture the mood of the series. Patrons can look forward to experiences like Summer in Montreal and Russians Don’t Blush.

The release strategy is designed to give audiences the full story in digestible parts. Viewers can catch the entire first season through three paired screenings: Episodes 1 and 2 (“Rookies” and “Olympians”), Episodes 3 and 4 (“Hunter” and “Rose”), and Episodes 5 and 6 (“I’ll Believe in Anything” and “The Cottage”). These showings will take place between November 6th and 30th.

At the heart of the drama is the intense, complicated situationship unfolding between two generational talents in the world of ice hockey: Canadian Shane Hollander (played by Hudson Williams) and Russian Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie). The on-screen tension is palpable, setting the stage for a powerful cinematic viewing.

The series itself is a powerhouse of talent. It stars an incredible ensemble including François Arnaud, Robbie G.K., Christina Chang, Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Sophie Nélisse, and Dylan Walsh. This group quickly became in-demand Hollywood stars, garnering critical acclaim and becoming the top-rated non-animated series on HBO Max since its launch in 2020.

This theatrical event is more than just a movie release; it’s a celebration of the story, the performances, and the incredible creative team behind Heated Rivalry, creating a true cinematic event before the highly anticipated second season begins filming in Toronto in 2027.
