Hooters Movie: Hollywood’s Origin Story

The Origin Story is About to Hit the Big Screen: Hooters Gets Its Own Movie

The world of hot wings is about to get a cinematic makeover. The iconic restaurant chain, known for its wings and undeniable presence, is embarking on a journey to tell its own story with a new feature film, Hooters: The Movie. This upcoming project promises to delve into the unlikely origins of the brand, trading in menu descriptions for the hilarious and heartfelt adventure of its founders.

The film centers on the genuine events behind Hooters’ founding, focusing on Ted and Lenny, two lifelong friends from a small-town in Iowa. Their story is one of accidental enterprise: how a simple idea blossomed into a national restaurant empire, only to be complicated by external forces and unexpected romance.

Their adventure kicks off when Ted, driven by a desire to find something more, embarks on a road trip to Clearwater Beach, Florida. It is along this journey that Ted meets Diane, who would become the very first Hooters Girl. This tale weaves together the chaos of starting a business with the charm of a cross-country pursuit, culminating in the creation of something far bigger than the two friends ever imagined.

The production team is bringing a unique blend of humor and genuine emotion to the screen. The film will be directed by Jon Rosenbaum, known for his knack for comedy, and the script is penned by Ed Droste, Phil Olson, and Chuck Melcher. The creative vision is anchored by the personal history of the founders, who are independently producing the movie.

Filming is slated to begin this November in the beautiful Tampa/Clearwater, Florida area, the very location where the original Hooters restaurant first opened in 1983. This setting promises to add a vivid, authentic backdrop to the unfolding narrative.

The producers are excited about the potential to share this cultural milestone. Ed Droste, one of the co-founders and producers, reflects on the scope of the project. “I think people are going to enjoy watching how we were really just some guys who didn’t know what we were doing, but had a great time doing it,” he commented. “There’s a lot of drama, but a lot of heart and fun too. And of course, our world-famous Hooters Girls are the real stars. For over 40 years Hooters has been America’s oasis in good times and bad. It’s time to deliver a taste of our big hearted culture and famous humor to the world.”

Director Jon Rosenbaum views the project as a perfect opportunity to tell an inspiring tale. “From the moment I first learned the Hooters origin story, I knew it would make an incredible movie. It’s the perfect combination of a hilarious buddy comedy and an inspiring biopic for a beloved American brand: Two lifelong friends with no idea what they’re getting themselves into, a crazy idea they’re willing to bet everything on, and a wild journey that culminates in the creation of something bigger than they could ever have imagined,” Rosenbaum stated. The team is eager to bring this unique blend of humor, drama, and history to the silver screen.
