Hugh Jackman’s The Sheep Detectives is coming to Digital
When you think of a murder mystery, you probably don’t picture a flock of sheep. Yet, The Sheep Detectives has proven that the most unlikely teams often make the most compelling stories. Starring the ever-charming Hugh Jackman, this mystery comedy whisks its audience away into a world where surprisingly sharp sheep take center stage as they hunt for a killer in their own meadow.
The film is a delightful blend of whimsical humor and genuine heart, built around a shepherd who expects his flock to be oblivious to the world. But when tragedy strikes, the sheep decide they can’t remain silent. Led by the shepherd’s bewildered partner, the animals trade their peaceful pastures for the complexities of human investigation, embarking on an unexpected journey that leads them far beyond their familiar boundaries.
The story is anchored by an incredible ensemble cast, featuring familiar and beloved faces. Alongside Jackman, the film brings together Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, and Emma Thompson, joined by a stellar group including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, and Rhys Darby. This collection of talent adds layers of comedic brilliance and emotional depth to the quirky premise.
The Sheep Detectives is more than just a fluffy romp; it’s a production of significant scale. Directed by Kyle Balda and written by Craig Mazin and Leonie Swann, the film was produced by the seasoned team of Lindsay Doran, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner, with Working Title Films and Three Strange Angels serving as production companies.
Financially and critically, the film has resonated strongly with audiences. The 75 million dollar production has grossed approximately $133.1 million worldwide. Critics have responded enthusiastically, with the film earning a high rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and a strong 96% verified audience score. Fans have particularly celebrated the creative premise, the family-friendly humor, and the genuinely heartfelt moments woven throughout the narrative.
Having already enjoyed a run in theaters and on streaming services, the attention is now shifting to the digital realm. Fans looking for more of this unique whodunit built around surprisingly astute sheep will have another window to enjoy the mystery. The Sheep Detectives is set to make its digital retail debut on September 29, 2026.
