Indiana Jones as a Marvel Comic Hero
Indiana Jones is Back on the Page with a New Quest
A new chapter in the storied life of Indiana Jones is set to unfold in the world of comics, promising thrilling adventures for fans of archaeology and high-stakes pursuit. At the recent Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at San Diego Comic-Con, excitement was ignited by the reveal of Indiana Jones and the Sword of Pandemonium, a fresh five-issue Marvel limited series crafted by writer Jason Aaron and artist Aaron Kuder.
This new title is poised to usher in an all-new era for the iconic archaeologist, pushing his skills and skepticism of the supernatural to their absolute limits as he embarks on an epic quest across the globe in search of a biblical weapon.
The narrative dives deep into the shadow of past exploits. Following the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones faces terrifying new antagonists determined to secure a terrifying source of power. Their pursuit leads them straight to Marion Ravenwood, his former companion, who has fallen into dangerous hands.
The story promises high adventure, forcing Indy to utilize his expertise not just for digging up ancient artifacts, but for navigating treacherous international landscapes in a race against time. It’s an exploration of archaeology combined with a thrilling chase that tests the limits of reason and faith.
Beyond this exciting new adventure, Marvel is also honoring the legacy of the classic era. In September, fans can look forward to the release of two-volume deluxe hardcovers that will reprint beloved 1980s Marvel comics featuring the hero.
The first volume collects key adventures, including Marvel Super Special (1977) #18 and #30, which feature tales of Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, alongside the early adventures of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones.
The second volume gathers further nostalgia, bringing together the action from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (#1-4) and additional material from The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones (#17-34).
These reprints offer a rich, comprehensive look at the character’s journey, ensuring that fans get to relive the thrilling escapades that cemented Indiana Jones as an enduring legend. The combination of new, high-octane storytelling and nostalgic reprints promises a truly unforgettable experience for comic book enthusiasts.
