The familiar, brutal world of fighting games is ready for a surprising detour. NetherRealm Studios, the celebrated developers behind the iconic Mortal Kombat franchise, is reportedly shifting its focus to explore the rich universe of DC Comics with their property, Injustice.

After crafting some of gaming’s most intense and beloved combat experiences, the studio is now turning its attention toward the DC universe. The final installment of the DC combat game, Injustice 2, concluded in 2017, but the groundwork for the next chapter is already being laid.

Recent reports indicate that testing for the next entry, Injustice 3, is underway. Whispers from industry insiders suggest that a select group outside the studio are already diving into the gameplay, giving early indications that development is moving forward.

This activity has reportedly taken place in Culver City, the heart of Warner Bros. Games’ headquarters, suggesting that the project is being handled within the larger corporate ecosystem.

NetherRealm has been transparent about its pipeline, having previously confirmed in May that they were actively pursuing another Mortal Kombat game alongside other projects. This commitment to expansion has clearly led to the exploration of other major properties, signaling a bold new direction for the studio.

The involvement of high-profile talent has also added to the intrigue. Resumes of two voice actors and a WB Games artist have reportedly surfaced, hinting at their potential roles in the upcoming title.

With the development gears turning, the focus now shifts to anticipation. Eyes are firmly fixed on the upcoming Game Awards in December, as this event could be the stage for a major announcement regarding the release of Injustice 3.
