Jeff Daniels joins Shane Black’s Bannerman
The world of espionage is about to take a very strange detour into the suburbs, thanks to a new drama series based on the thrilling spy novels by John R. Maxim. Joining the cast is Emmy winner Jeff Daniels, who will bring a layer of complex depth to the unfolding narrative.
While Daniels won’t be playing the titular operative, the series follows the extraordinary premise of Paul Bannerman, a lethal covert operative who attempts to achieve the ultimate retirement: trading the deadly world of espionage for a chance at a quiet life in the suburbs of Connecticut. This quest for normalcy is immediately complicated by the fact that old enemies, deeply ingrained bad habits, a paranoid government, and an unrelenting ex-cop are waiting to derail his peace.
The tension deepens when Daniels steps into the role of Raymond Lesko, an infamous NYPD detective. Lesko is currently trying to navigate a new life working a hotel security gig, a stark contrast to his past. However, his retirement is shattered when he learns that his daughter, the only person he truly cares about, is involved with a man who may prove to be far more dangerous than he ever imagined.
This high-stakes drama is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Shane Black, known for hits like The Nice Guys and Play Dirty. Black, who is making his transition into television as writer and director, is collaborating with producer Craig Silverstein, who will serve as the showrunner. Their creative partnership brings a unique, gritty sensibility to the story.
The production team also includes industry veterans Greg Nicotero and Brian Witten, lending significant weight to the series. The show is set to premiere on AMC in the United States and Canada, and will be available on Netflix in those regions just 90 days after the season finale airs on AMC.
For international audiences, the broadcast deal is even more expansive. Netflix and AMC will jointly debut each episode in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, with Netflix carrying the exclusive rights across the rest of the globe, ensuring that this story of suburban escape and deadly secrets reaches a truly global audience.
