Jeff Daniels stars in Shane Black’s Bannerman series for Netflix & AMC

The Retirement Plan of a Lethal Spy: Jeff Daniels Takes on Assassin Aftermath in New Drama

Prepare for a thrilling descent from the shadows, as actor Jeff Daniels is set to star in Bannerman, a high-octane drama series that promises a wild ride for viewers seeking premium entertainment. This new series adapts the compelling spy novels by John R. Maxim, weaving a narrative that blends high-stakes espionage with the complicated world of revenge and unexpected retirement.

Bannerman centers on the eponymous Paul Bannerman, a figure known for his lethal covert operations. The story revolves around his audacious plan: convincing a group of the world’s deadliest assassins to trade their deadly careers for a chance at a quiet life in the suburbs of Connecticut. But retirement is anything but peaceful; old enemies, deep-seated bad habits, a paranoid government, and an unrelenting ex-cop are all waiting to make their return, turning the escape into the most difficult mission yet.

Daniels will not be playing the enigmatic Paul Bannerman, however. Instead, he steps into the shoes of Raymond Lesko, an infamous NYPD detective currently trying to navigate life after being thrown out of the force. Lesko is haunted by the murder of his ex-partner, a ghost that still grips him. His world is thrown into chaos when he learns that his daughter is dating a man who may be far more dangerous than he is, forcing him back into a conflict he desperately tried to leave behind.

The creative engine behind this ambitious project is a powerhouse team. Shane Black co-wrote the first episode and helmed the direction and executive production for the initial two episodes, bringing a sharp, cinematic edge to the story. Craig Silverstein serves as the writer, showrunner, and executive producer, ensuring the complex narrative remains tightly focused and thrilling.

The source material for the series is rich and layered, drawn from five celebrated novels: The Bannerman Solution, The Bannerman Effect, Bannerman’s Law, Bannerman’s Promise, and Bannerman’s Ghosts, providing a deep foundation for the dramatic stakes.

The series is a major co-production agreement between AMC Studios and Netflix, signaling a powerful convergence of platforms. It will premiere on AMC in the United States and Canada, and audiences can stream the thrilling episodes on Netflix just ninety days after the series finale airs on AMC. This joint venture allows the two giants to debut each episode in Australia, New Zealand, and Spain, while Netflix will provide exclusive streaming access globally.

Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, praised the series, describing it as a smart, high-octane thrill ride, perfectly positioned as a premium drama to launch their partnership with Netflix. It truly is a high-stakes adventure waiting to unfold.
