Jessica Chastain’s Bloody Horror Film Gets an R Rating

Universal Pictures’ Other Mommy is rated R for “some bloody violence, and language.” While the rating suggests the film won’t delve into extreme gore, it signals that audiences should still expect a decidedly intense experience that pushes past the PG-13 boundary.

This mild R classification sets the stage for something genuinely unsettling. The film is a spiritual successor to director Rob Savage’s work, following his previous acclaim with Host. It brings the dark, psychological intensity that fans have come to expect from Savage’s horror vision.

The story itself pulls from Josh Malerman’s popular novel Incidents Around the House, showcasing how deeply rooted the horror element is in the narrative.
