Jessica Rothe hints at time jump in Happy Death Day 3
The wait for the final chapter of Tree Gelbman’s thrilling saga, Happy Death Day 3, has stretched into seven years. But for fans, this extended timeline has only amplified the excitement, as the story is evolving into something even more dynamic, hinting at a major twist that will change everything.
Actress Jessica Rothe recently shared details about this creative journey, revealing that the concept for the third film has undergone a significant transformation. To explore Tree’s post-college adult life, Rothe collaborated with writer/director Christopher Landon, leading to a fresh take on the narrative.
Rothe explained that the creative process led to an exciting pivot. “The story has now evolved further,” she noted. “Chris and I met up earlier this year to reconceive the third movie, and we broke the story for this new version.” She emphasized how rewarding it was to collaborate with Landon, calling him a genius and one of her favorite people.
The core idea remains, but the narrative is now set up with a compelling time jump. This temporal shift allows the story to leap forward, giving viewers a chance to see what has happened to Tree and how her life has unfolded during her time away.
This evolution isn’t just a gimmick; it deepens the emotional stakes. Rothe stressed that the time jump makes complete sense, offering a perfect opportunity to explore the consequences of Tree’s experiences and solidify her character’s journey.
Despite the change, the foundational seeds Christopher Landon planted for the story are still present in the new version. The premise and the big hook remain intact, but the details surrounding Tree and her present-day life are now much more specific, making the reunion far more compelling.
The sequel is now officially moving forward, with the team currently waiting for the studios to give the green light. Meanwhile, Rothe is also bringing her talents to another thrilling project, starring alongside Kiana Madeira and Logan Marshall-Green in the recent horror hit, Beware Boiúna.
