Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis star in Mister Miracle animation
James Gunn has officially brought a splash of cinematic magic to the DC Universe, announcing the lead voice cast for the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series. The excitement is palpable as Josh Hutcherson and Mackenzie Davis have been tapped to bring the iconic characters of Scott Free and Big Barda to life.
This ambitious project draws directly from the acclaimed 12-issue comic book series by Tom King and Mitch Gerads. King, who served as showrunner and executive producer, has not only adapted the book but also wrote all eight episodes for the series, infusing the story with a rich, personal narrative.
The casting decision was quickly validated by DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran, who spoke about the project’s potential. Safran called the story “dynamite,” emphasizing the deeply personal nature of the source material. He reflected on the narrative’s power, noting that the story of Scott Free and Big Barda was something he had always loved, remembering how the narrative touched him deeply.
The foundation of Mister Miracle is a high-stakes tale rooted in incredible escapism. Scott Free is established as the greatest escape artist who has ever lived, a figure who managed to evade the gruesome confines of Granny Goodness’ orphanage and the dangers of Apokolips to forge a new life on Earth with his wife, Big Barda.
However, the true tension lies in the central paradox of the hero. Despite mastering every illusion and stunt, Scott Free faces one ultimate challenge: he has never escaped death. The story hinges on this profound question—is it possible to truly escape fate?
At its heart, Mister Miracle is far more than a superhero adventure; it is a powerful love story woven with intricate emotional threads. While the narrative is filled with action and cosmic conflict, it grounds itself in the raw, emotional connection between Scott Free and Big Barda.
This romantic element, handled with humility and profound heart, sets the series apart. It demonstrates that even within the realm of superheroics, stories built on genuine connection and high personal stakes can be endlessly compelling. It’s a strange, dark, and deeply emotional journey that promises to resonate with audiences looking for more than just spectacle.
The animated series promises to deliver a unique and unforgettable experience, merging the vibrant world of DC with a story that celebrates the power of love, freedom, and the relentless human will to survive.
