Justice Smith & Cast Join HBO Show Fans Freak Out

The wait is almost over for fans of the HBO series Heated Rivalry. As anticipation builds for the sequel, the focus is shifting to a dynamic new storyline that promises even deeper exploration of vulnerability and resilience, bringing the already compelling narrative into exciting new territory.

The upcoming season will continue the saga of Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie‘s Ilya. However, this time around, the series expands its scope by introducing a dual-storyline structure centered on two fresh main characters: Harris Drover and Troy Barrett.

These new faces are stepping into a universe already rich with depth, drawing inspiration from author Rachel Reid’s acclaimed Game Changers. The roles of Drover and Barrett are derived from Reid’s fifth novel, Role Model.

The casting for these pivotal new characters is shaping up to be a major highlight. Justice Smith has been cast as Harris Drover, while Charlie Gillespie will embody Troy Barrett. These actors bring an instinctive understanding of the characters’ core traits, lending genuine vulnerability and resilience to their performances, a sentiment echoed by showrunner Jacob Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady.

Harris Drover is portrayed as the team’s social media manager, while Troy Barrett is a professional hockey player who finds himself traded to the Ottawa Centaurs. This dynamic pairing sets the stage for high-stakes personal drama intertwined with professional challenges.

Both Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie have already established themselves as compelling performers. Smith has previously shone in roles like Tim Goodman in Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Franklin Webb in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and he is also known for his work in Now You See Me.

Gillespie brings a strong presence to the screen, having played Luke Patterson in Julie and the Phantoms and Brian in Charmed. His career also includes collaborations with Dakota Johnson and Kyle Marvin in Splitsville.

With this fresh cast taking the reins, the narrative is set to unfold across the story of The Long Game, Reid’s sixth novel. Fans can look forward to the highly anticipated season 2 of Heated Rivalry, which is slated to premiere in April 2027.
