The fantasy landscape is buzzing with major developments as Disney looks to expand its universe by diving deeper into the world crafted by Rick Riordan. Known for launching global bestsellers like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney is now considering bringing another of Riordan’s world-building sagas to the screen, starting with a new series based on his acclaimed Kane Chronicles trilogy.
The first project being explored is based on The Kane Chronicles, a trilogy steeped in the rich tapestry of Egyptian mythology. This story follows the Kane siblings, Carter and Sadie, who are powerful magicians descended from the pharaohs Narmer and Ramses the Great. Their adventure involves mastering inherited Egyptian magic, forging unexpected alliances, and confronting warring gods before chaos can engulf the modern world.
The logline for the proposed series promises high stakes and intense action: “When their father unleashes the god of chaos and vanishes, the estranged Kane siblings must master their inherited Egyptian magic, forge unlikely alliances, and rescue their father before warring gods can wreak havoc on our modern world.”
Adding weight to the cinematic potential, Angela Robinson, the celebrated creator of True Blood, is reportedly being considered to executive produce and write the new series alongside Riordan, promising a unique blend of literary depth and dramatic flair.
While the new series is on the horizon, the existing flagship property, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, is gearing up for its next chapter. The upcoming third season is set to debut on Disney+ in November, continuing the epic quest of Percy Jackson and his companions.
Percy Jackson Season 3 builds upon the narrative of The Titan’s Curse, thrusting Percy on a perilous journey to rescue Annabeth and confront the forces of Kronos. The season features a stellar ensemble cast, including Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Dafne Keen as the goddess Artemis.
The return also brings back familiar faces like Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Daniel Diemer as Tyson, and Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue.
