A cinematic dream is brewing, bringing together some of Hollywood’s most formidable talent for a reimagining of a critically acclaimed Korean action thriller. Keanu Reeves is reportedly in negotiations to star in the English-language adaptation of “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil,” a project slated for Paramount Pictures.

At the helm of this ambitious project is the legendary director James Wan, known globally for crafting the scares and spectacle in franchises like The Conjuring and Aquaman. Wan is set to steer this new adventure, marking an exciting step as his first directorial feature since his blockbuster work on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Adding serious action pedigree to the table is Ma Dong-seok, better known as Don Lee, who starred in the original film. The action star is attached to reprise his role, promising electrifying performances as he navigates the complex world of the story.

The source material itself is a masterclass in tension and moral ambiguity. The original narrative follows a reluctant alliance between a police officer and a crime boss who must reluctantly band together to hunt down a deadly serial killer. As their motives shift and double-crosses unfold, the story spirals into a gripping cat-and-mouse game.

The script for this new take was penned by Eric Pearson, author of Thunderbolts. The creative team behind the project draws from a rich history of storytelling, incorporating previous drafts by Shay Hatten, known for films like John Wick and Rebel Moon, and the vision of executive producer Brian Helgeland, who worked on L.A. Confidential.

The production is backed by a stellar team, including Wan and Michael Clear, operating under Wan’s established Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. The production boasts other high-caliber producers such as Sylvester Stallone, D. Matt Geller, Chris Lee, Jang Won-seok, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, ensuring a blend of cinematic flair and genre expertise.
