Keanu Reeves talks James Wan about The Cop remake

Keanu Reeves Eyes Role in James Wan’s High-Octane Remake of Classic Crime Thriller

Legendary actor Keanu Reeves is reportedly in discussions to star in the reimagining of James Wan’s acclaimed film, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil. This project promises to blend Wan’s signature suspense and action with the gritty, intense drama of the original story.

The foundation of the remake draws from a compelling 2019 Korean film, which established a riveting dynamic between law enforcement and organized crime. The original narrative pitted a police officer and a crime boss against a relentless serial killer, forcing them into an uneasy alliance defined by mistrust, double-crosses, and brutal cat-and-mouse games.

The source material was anchored by a memorable performance from Don Lee, who portrayed the gangster in the original version. The potential casting of Reeves as the police officer injects a fresh layer of intrigue into the established conflict, hinting at a partnership born of reluctant necessity.

Behind the scenes, the creative team is shaping this new vision. Eric Pearson penned the latest script, building upon previous drafts by talents like Shat Hatten and Brian Helgeland. The production is helmed by James Wan, operating under the umbrella of the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner, with Michael Clear and Jason Blum providing further production support.

The involvement of established talents further signals the quality of the upcoming feature. Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller are also slated to produce the project via Balboa Productions, while Don Lee will contribute through Big Punch Global, alongside other key industry figures.

While the remake offers a dose of dark procedural storytelling, Reeves’ film slate remains packed with equally ambitious projects. He is already gearing up for a time-loop movie directed by Tim Miller, which mirrors the high-stakes action of films like Edge of Tomorrow. This upcoming feature follows a smuggler caught in a deadly time loop while navigating a perilous journey in the Caribbean Sea.

Adding to the variety, Reeves is set to return to his voice work as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, slated for release in March 2027. He is also embarking on a live-action venture with BRZRKR, a comic book adaptation based on his own work, which is set to be produced by Netflix.
