Ken and Ryu Brotherhood Action in new Street Fighter featurette
While the original Street Fighter film of 1994 centered on martial arts star Jean-Claude Van Damme as the Colonel and featured Guile prominently, the upcoming cinematic reboot is taking a fascinating detour. This new feature shifts the spotlight, placing the iconic duo of Ken Masters and Ryu front and center, alongside Chun-Li. It’s a deliberate move to delve deeper into the heart of the legendary rivalry and the brotherhood that defines these incredible fighters.
A new featurette accompanying the movie dives into one of the film’s major narratives, exploring the complex backgrounds and enduring bond shared by Ken and Ryu. It’s a look at the personal stakes that fuel their epic clashes.
The official logline sets the stage for an explosive adventure: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
The production itself is handled with high-caliber vision, with Bad Trip’s Kitao Sakurai directing the film based on a screenplay by Dalan Musson, known for projects like Captain America: Brave New World and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This collaborative energy is fueling an ambitious visual experience.
The ensemble cast brings a powerhouse lineup to the arena. Alongside the leads, the film features a stellar group, including Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Orville Peck as Vega, and Jason Momoa as Blanka. The roster is packed with talent, with other notable performances from Roman Reigns as Akuma, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, and Andrew Koji as Ryu.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on October 16. Prepare for a visual feast that embraces the action and emotion of the Street Fighter legacy, boasting a PG-13 rating for violence/action, bloody images, strong language, sexual references, partial nudity, and brief smoking.
The partnership behind the production reflects the scope of the project, with Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures teaming up to bring this globally appealing story to the screen. Legendary CEO Josh Grode noted that this collaboration marks an exciting new chapter in pursuing a diversified growth strategy, aiming to create stories that captivate and inspire moviegoers worldwide.
