Kristen Stewart & Riley Keough in New Haunting Supernatural Movie
Acclaimed director Olivier Assayas is bringing his signature blend of haunting mystery and deep emotional complexity to the screen once again, collaborating with the magnetic presence of Kristen Stewart on his latest supernatural venture, Spiritual World. This project reunites the French filmmaker with Stewart for what promises to be another richly atmospheric cinematic experience.
The cast for the film is stellar, featuring Stewart alongside Riley Keough, Vicky Krieps, and Wagner Moura, with Barbara Sukowa and Niels Schneider also lending their talents to the international ensemble. Stewart will portray Ada, a young woman grappling with mysterious premonitions that pull her into the depths of the supernatural.
The film is described as a deeply atmospheric drama, drawing comparisons to the unsettling charm of Personal Shopper but injecting it with a decidedly steamier, more ethereal tone. It promises to explore the blurred lines between reality and the unseen world, guided by Assayas’ masterful direction.
This collaboration is not a new one. Stewart and Assayas have already shared creative history on two previous projects, including the 2014 film Clouds of Sils Maria, for which Stewart won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress. They also recently worked together on Personal Shopper in 2016, a supernatural drama that showcased Assayas’ directorial vision.
Spiritual World marks the third film partnership between the pair, solidifying their unique and compelling cinematic dynamic. Assayas is further developing the project with producer Olivier Delbosc, who is spearheading development through Paris-based Curiosa Films, with ARTE France providing co-financing.
Assayas is already known for his distinctive voice, having directed critically acclaimed projects such as The Wizard of the Kremlin, starring Jude Law and Paul Dano, and the television series Irma Vep, starring Alicia Vikander. Meanwhile, Stewart has established herself as a formidable force, making her feature directorial debut with The Chronology of Water.
Filming for Spiritual World is scheduled to begin in February 2027 across France and Germany, with production expected to run through April 2027. While a release date remains to be determined, the anticipation surrounding this haunting new world is already building.
