Beyond the plot, the production was a remarkable financial feat. Although independently financed, the film reportedly secured a large $100 million production budget through international pre-sales. This structure meant that US distributors are focused solely on domestic rights, with the new distributor, Vertical, securing the domestic distribution rights for $12 million and committing $20 million toward marketing and prints.
